Different Bed
Sizes
If you are interested in buying a new bed, then it would be very beneficial to educate
yourself on all of the different sizes that are available.
There are actually not that many different sizes, but you should take note of the fact that
the bed sizes themselves are different in different countries.
In other words, a twin bed in the United States is going to be different than a twin bed in
England, and so forth. There is usually not much difference between sizes, but there are sometimes a few
inches of difference, or even more.
The main bed sizes are the single, the twin, the full, the double, the queen, and the
king.
-
Single bed sizes are usually pretty standard at about 39 inches by 75
inches.
-
Twin beds are usually considered singles.
-
Full beds and double beds are sometimes counted as being the same size also. These
usually measure about 54 inches by 75 inches.
-
Queen and king sizes vary depending on where you are. In North America, a queen
mattress is usually 60 inches by 80 inches, and a king measures about 76 inches by 80
inches.

In the UK, however, the king size is almost identical to the queen in North America. In
contrast, the queen sized UK bed would be considered a king size in North America, and so on. Australia is
usually closer to the United States in size than it is to the UK, though this is not always true either.
When choosing a bed size for you, you should take into account a few things. First, will you
be sleeping alone, or with a partner? Second, how much room do you have? And third, do you need to save room
for anything else, like a chair or a coffee table? Once you have contemplated these questions, you will be
much more ready to buy the right size.
Be sure to get the right bedding set to match your mattress size. A king bedding set won't work well on a
queen size bed!
